The Icelandic national costume, owned by Oddný Methúsalemsdóttir
This national costum was made and owned by Oddný Methúsalemsdóttir. Oddný was born at Bustarfell, but lived with her husband at Ytri-Hlíð in Vopnafjörður. She even made the decoration on the breast herself, out of brass. Her sister Salína used to make things out of brass, so Oddný borrowed her tools to make the decorations for her costume.
A Pocket-stemwinder from Þórður Grímsson
Around turn of the century to 1900 Þórður Grímsson and Methúsalem Methúsalemsson from Bustarfell used to look after milking sheeps together. On those trip they used to borrow this stemwinder to have with them from Þórðurs grandmother, Guðrún Laxdal.
Þórður then moved to Amerika. When he became an old man he sent this stemvinder to Methúsalem in commemoration of their time together.
A butterstamp and a buttermoulder
This butterstamp has the number 3118. Before dairy farmers co-operative was established, farmers could deposit butter into the co-operative society of Vopnafjöður. Every farm had its own numer which they printed on the butter. Elín Methúsalemsdóttir gave Bustarfell Museum this piece.
Little shoes out of manshair and togs
Those little baby shoes where given to the Museum by Hildigunnur Valdimarsdóttir, a daugter of Guðfinna Þorsteinsdóttir. Guðfinna used to gather her own hair from the comb when she combed herself and when she cut her hair. Then she spinned the hair and made slippers for her children out of it. When she died her children found a spinned thread that Guðfinna had made out of her her and her daugter, Hildigunnur made those shoes out of it. The togs inside the shoes are made of lambswool.
